The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings on Friday 103 to 98. The Lakers continue to have their injury problems but were able to get the win. Steve Nash re-injured his right hamstring and only played for a brief moment in the first quarter. Kobe Bryant had a left foot injury but decided to play through it.
Bryant passed Wilt Chamberlain in the all time scoring list and now sits at number 14. He scored 19 points and added 14 assists as well. Dwight Howard led the Lakers in scoring with 24 points and added a game high 15 rebounds as well. Pau Gasol continued to show improvement and looked solid with 12 points and dishing out 10 assists. Jodie Meeks, who will continue to start in place of Metta World Peace, scored 14 points. From the bench Steve Blake provided a scoring boost to make up for Nash’s absence and had 15 points.
The Lakers needed this win with the season coming to an end. They sit in 9th place, out of the playoffs, behind the Utah Jazz because of the tie breaker that belongs to Utah. The Lakers need to win all they can and that will be enough for Bryant to play through his injury as he as been throughout his career. With two days off before their next game it will be key for Nash to rest up and will probably look to play but will probably be limited a bit.
The Lakers play again on Tuesday taking on the Dallas Mavericks at the Staples Center. The Mavericks are making a late playoff push and currently sit behind the Lakers at the 10 spot just a game and a half behind.
