The Los Angeles Lakers took the floor tonight and beat the Sacramento Kings who were without center Demarcus Cousins 113 to 102 behind an all around team effort. A total of six players scored in double digits. Jodie Meeks started while Kobe Bryant was out tonight with the injury suffered against the Atlanta Hawks and it was reported that he had caught the flu as well. After only playing 12 minutes in the last game against the Pacers it was decided he would not play against the Kings and he is also questionable for the next game.

The Lakers had another terrific performance by their two bench players. Antawn Jamison led the team in scoring with 27 points while Steve Blake had 16 points and 8 assist. Both Jamison and Blake had combined for 35 points against the Pacers. Dwight Howard was great defensively with a total of 5 blocks and added 12 points having another double double. Metta World Peace and Steve Nash also had good games with World Peace scoring 22 points and Nash with  19. Tonight’s victory makes it the 7th win in a row at home for the Lakers.

While Kobe is questionable to miss the next game there is also questions surrounding whether Pau Gasol will be back or not. It was reported that he could take the floor on Monday against the Phoenix Suns but after feeling soreness on his foot it may take a few more days for his return. With the Lakers winning while their two stars are out it can help make the decision of sitting Kobe possibly for another game to continue to heal his ankle and rest. There are also reports that Jordan Hill can make an earlier recovery from his injury but it is believed to be slight chance depending on how far the Lakers go in the playoffs.

The Lakers are now a full game ahead of the Utah Jazz in the 8th playoff spot. The Houston Rockets played against the Golden State Warriors losing 78 to 108 and are now just half a game ahead of the Lakers at the 7th spot. Monday’s game against the Suns will be at Phoenix and the Lakers can look to win back to back games which they have not been able to do so all season.
