The Los Angeles Lakers grabbed their second win in a row in what was an impressive blowout win ending at 127-96 against the New York Knicks at the staples center. The Lakers scored 51 points in the third quarter, making it the most points scored in a quarter ever by the franchise and points in a quarter allowed by the Knicks.

The Lakers’ bench played a major role scoring 82 points with three players scoring in double digits. Despite learning he will need surgery for a torn ligament in his left wrist, Xavier Henry was able to lead the team scoring 22 points in the 23 minutes played off the bench. Nick Young scored 22 points and Kent Bazemore added 18 points off the bench as well. Pau Gasol was not available to play tonight and is still recovering after being diagnosed with vertigo giving Chris Kaman the start at center. Kaman scored 13 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Carmelo Anthony had a tough time hitting shots going 10-21 from the field and finished the game with 29 points and nine rebounds. Tim Hardaway Jr. provided the spark off the bench for the Knicks hitting 17 of the bench’s 21 points.

The Lakers struggled to start off falling behind early and only scoring a total of 14-points in the first quarter, only making five of their 18 shots. Things turned around quickly with the team going on a 22-4 run midway through the second quarter and would lead 50-42 at the half. The Lakers continued their strong play in the second half where they made 10 of their 18 three-pointers.

Phil Jackson, now president of the Knicks, was spotted at the game sitting in a luxury suite. Former Laker Metta World Peace also attended the game and did spend time talking to his former coach Jackson.

The Lakers will take the floor again on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks in their first game of two game road trip.

Despite Losing Kobe, Lakers Win

imageThe Los Angeles Lakers lost Kobe Bryant due to an injury to his left knee that he suffered against the Memphis Grizzlies. Many started to think and talk about the Lakers having to tank now. They have no point guards and Bryant is expected to miss six weeks.

It did not matter against the Minnesota Timberwolves because the Lakers played an impressive game to come out on top 104-91. The Lakers lost their first meeting with the Timberwolves back when Nash only played 13 minutes before sitting out the game due to back issues. Even though the Lakers have been hit with big injuries they managed to move on and show that they can still be entertaining and stay competitive.

Pau Gasol had a big game with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists, even hitting a big three in the fourth quarter to push the Lakers lead. Both Jodie Meeks and Xavier Henry also hit double digits in the starting lineup. Meeks hit some difficult shots in the game to give him 17 points while Xavier Henry started at point guard and finished with 21 points and 4 assists. Off the bench, Nicky Young provided some great energy and offense with 25 points to lead his team in scoring, and hitting a total of four three-pointers. It was a great team effort and it was the second game in a row with Pau having a great offensive game after struggling a few games ago.

The Lakers did sign a new point guard in Kendall Marshall, a former Phoenix Sun lottery pick, but he did not play in the game. Chris Kaman, who had fallen out of the rotation played 16 minutes and finished with six points. The team will be on the road again and will face the Golden State Warriors tomorrow, in a game that can put them back over the .500 mark.

Lakers Finish Road Trip With Win

imageAfter losing to the Atlanta Hawks, the Los Angeles Lakers played against the Memphis Grizzlies in what was their last game of their four game road trip. Fortunately, the game ended with the Lakers coming out on top 96-82. With the win the Lakers finished their road trip with two wins and two losses.

Both Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant played a great game to help the Lakers get the win. Gasol played like an all-star finishing with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Bryant also recorded 21 points and had 4 assists as well. Off the bench, Nick Young led the way with 18 points and 3 rebounds.

The Lakers caught a break with the Grizzlies being without the services of both Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. Memphis led the game in the fourth quarter by three points but the Lakers were able to go on a big run and escape the game with the win.

There was a scary moment in the game when Bryant went down in the third quarter. Everything seemed to be okay after the game with Bryant telling reporters, “I just twisted my knee a little bit,” but everything would be fine. The Lakers will be back in action again on Friday and will be taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves at home.

Lakers Lose To Nuggets

Gasol vs. NuggetsAfter what may be one of the best games the Lakers have played all season against the Pelicans, the Lakers could not keep the momentum going against the Denver Nuggets losing 111-99. The Lakers played great throughout the game against the Pelicans but were very inconsistent in what was the second of back to back games.

Mike D’Antoni went with the same starting lineup and Jordan Hill continued to look great showing a lot of aggressiveness. However, as a team, the Lakers could not get going trailing the Nuggets most of the game. The Lakers would cut the lead down to as little as four points but Nuggets were not going to hand this game over. There were chances for the Lakers both in the third and a couple in the fourth quarter but they would get cold offensively.

Pau Gasol quietly worked his way into becoming the leading scorer for the Lakers with 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 3 assists. It seems like Hill will be staying in the starting lineup after getting 18 points and 15 rebounds. Hill was battling throughout the game for every rebound he could get his hands on even though getting into early foul trouble. With Steve Nash out for at least two weeks, Steve Blake played well with 15 points and 11 assists.

The Lakers had trouble containing both Kenneth Faried, who scored 21 points, and Ty Lawson with 19. Off the bench for the Nuggets Timofey Mozgov had 23 points to lead the team and 9 rebounds. The Lakers will play again on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies who have recently been struggling.
